New year, new ‘do. We all love getting dolled up every now and then (well for some of us, maybe everyday). But when it comes to going full-glam, it’s not just about how we do our makeup… there are also a ton of ways that we can get creative with our hair. Forget about the basic mermaid waves – here are 3 simple hairstyles to show everyone how trendy you can get!

1. Cluster of bobby pins

Bobby pins are incredibly versatile! They’re great for taming our baby hairs and you can stack a cluster of them into any section of your hair for a more glamorous effect.

Invest in a set of bobby pins with tons of bling, and bring them out whenever you’re feeling anything but low-key!

When you’re wearing your hair up or down, you can add a cluster of bobby pins into the front section of your hair to add some drama to your hairstyle. If you’re wearing your hair in a low ponytail, you can add a bunch of bobby pins into the area behind your ear.

2. French braid

Looking for a super cute hairstyle that doesn’t require much effort?

Use a curling iron to add waves into your hair, then run your fingers through the curls to loosen them up.

Next, separate the front section (that you’re going to braid) from the rest of your hair. Place your finger onto your part – about an inch or so from your hairline – then run your finger downwards towards your ear.

Tie the rest of your hair back loosely to separate the two sections. French braid the front section of your hair and pin it down with a couple bobby pins. Then untie the rest of your hair.

French braid… quoi? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here’s a quick tutorial to guide you through it!

3. Snap clips

Are snap clips still a thing? Yes, they are!

Pop a couple snap clips into the front section of your hair for a simple but trendy hairstyle that works for practically any occasion.

When you’re wearing your hair up or down, or even tied back, you can place a couple snap clips either all on one side of your part or you can place one clip on each side.

What’s your go-to hairstyle for a night out? Let us know in the comments down below if you know any other cute looks that we should add onto this list!

How to Change Your Hair Without Getting it Cut https://liveglam.com/how-to-change-your-hair-without-getting-it-cut/ https://liveglam.com/how-to-change-your-hair-without-getting-it-cut/#respond Thu, 07 Nov 2019 01:01:07 +0000 https://liveglam.com/?p=10038857530 How to Change Your Hair Without Getting it Cut

Want to change your hair look but don’t want/can’t afford/can’t be bothered getting a haircut or color? Same! It can be done…with accessories. Hair accessories aren’t just for 12-year olds. (Any 90’s kids out there who wore a million sparkling butterfly clips? The good days). Hair accessories are affordable, fun and completely temporary! No tears or regrets required. Plus, if you’re not a jewelry gal but you still want that sparkle, glam-up your hair.

Diamante, pearl and velvet head-bands

I adore headbands because they don’t pull or tug at my hair, they give that extra height on flat hair days, and they’re a great way to add sparkle to an otherwise boring day. They’re also great for greasy up-do hair days when you want to cover some of that uh…situation up there.  This is my top pick!

Pearl headbands

Styling idea: contrast a grungy tee, ripped jeans and ankle boots with a diamante-embellished velvet headband.

Embellished combs

I love hair combs, there’s something very vintage and romantic about them. I got thinking about hair combs when gazing at the beauty looks at the Tory Burch Spring 2020 show at NYFW. In fact, NYFW was full of exquisite hair accessory goodness…

How to Wear Embellished Combs

Combs are the perfect mix between super practical and achingly pretty. This one here is very expensive, but I had to include it because it’s so stunning, handmade and perfect for bridal-wear…or everyday at the office.

Styling idea: bridge the gap between hair up and hair down by pinning back the front-sides of your locks with combs, leaving the lengths free and flowing.

Pretty clips

Clips serve two main purposes: getting your hair out of your face or keeping shorter strands in place. And…they add color, sparkle and detail to your overall look.

How to Wear Hair Clips

Brand shout-out: Margherita is a brand which makes THE sweetest, cutest, prettiest hair accessories. (I may already have told you guys about them, but I’ll tell ya again!). They make shimmery, gleaming, often shell-inspired slides and clips. Perfect for girls and guys who love pale pastel tones and love to channel the ocean.

Scrunchies

Excuse me, 1995 called…okay, that’s too lame, I can’t even write the rest. But yes, scrunchies are back in a huge way, and I love it. They don’t pinch and pull, they’re soft and kind of whimsical and girly, and there’s a million different varieties out there. Scrunchies are a lifesaver because they don’t create that annoying hair tie kink in straight or wavy hair.

How to Wear Scrunchies

These Fall scrunchies are mega cute, and they’re handmade! I adore the green linen one.

Have fun loading your locks with prettiness!

OlaPlex No:3 Hair Perfector Review https://liveglam.com/olaplex-hair-perfector-review/ Sun, 11 Aug 2019 23:06:07 +0000 https://liveglam.com/?p=10033542897

OlaPlex No:3 Hair Perfector Review

The OlaPlex No:3 Hair Perfector has been on the market, and popular, for a long time. However, this review is for all of you out there who haven’t tried it and are wondering if it’s worth the cash!

What is it?

The OlaPlex No:3 Hair Perfector ($28) is a hair treatment/mask which you leave for at least 10 minutes before washing out. It’s designed to repair broken hair and give it a strong, healthy look and feel with fewer frizzy bits and scraggy split ends.

OlaPlex is a science-focused, evidence-based company, with a 3-step program designed to repair damaged hair. The OlaPlex No:3 Hair Perfector is, yes, the third and last step. I haven’t used the first two steps, but I’ll let you know when I do!

To use the Hair Perfector, you simply massage it into damp hair, leave for at least 10 minutes, then wash as normal.

Olaplex Hair Perfector Review

When and how I used it for the first time…

Here’s what I did:

  • I went to the gym for a circuit class until 7 pm
  • Came home (had to sit down…it was a brutal class)
  • Put my head under the kitchen faucet (yes, the kitchen, and yes, I wiped the sink
  • out afterward) and soaked my hair from root to tip
  • Towel-dried my hair
  • Smoothed a generous amount of OlaPlex No:3 onto my hair and massaged it
  • into my scalp and made sure to coat the ends
  • Twisted my hair into a bun
  • Made dinner, watched ‘Glee’ reruns and warded my Boston Terrier off my dinner, all the while my hair soaked in the mask for over an hour
  • Jumped into the shower, shampoo and conditioner, rinse, towel dry
  • Left my hair to air-dry before bed

What was my hair like after the first application?

Even when my hair was still damp, I could tell the mask had made a huge difference. It felt thicker, stronger, and more…cohesive, if that makes sense? There were no little runaway hairs straying from the crowd and creating a light layer of frizz. As my hair dried I could see that it was more voluminous than usual. This was exactly what I wanted! It had a more natural lift at the roots. It felt and looked fuller, with a little more body and movement. Yay!

I have naturally wavy hair, which veers closer to curly under the right circumstances. The OlaPlex No:3 didn’t make my hair curly, as such, but it did create deeper, more fuller waves which framed my face. I didn’t expect this result but I’m so stoked it happened!

One of the best aspects I have found is that my hair stays cleaner for longer. I’m currently sitting here with clean, voluminous hair on a Saturday morning. I used the Olaplex No:3 on Thursday night, and I honestly can’t see myself needing to wash my hair again until Monday. I don’t quite know how this works…but hey, I’m not about to question it!

Olaplex products review

Will I keep using it, and repurchase when I run out?

Hands down, yes and yes.

I’m pretty lazy with my hair. I wash it then leave it to dry. I add a little dry shampoo when the roots are greasy, and spritz it with hair perfume when I remember to. I very rarely go to the hairdresser and I never get treatments done. Because of my fabulous shade of natural gingery-red, I have never dyed it.

Despite all of this, I really do want to have luscious, full, healthy hair without the effort. I find that the OlaPlex No:3 truly does work the way I want it to, and it’s easy. It’s not the cheapest product around, but for me, the results justify the cost.

Verdict

If you want something to make your hair look freshly-treated, freshly-cut, healthy, voluminous and with a little extra luster, I would recommend the OlaPlex No:3. Now, as previously mentioned, I am by NO means a hair expert, quite the opposite. But my experience with this particular product was a resounding success.

The Hair & Body Oil That Leaves You Looking and Smelling Increds https://liveglam.com/ouai-rose-hair-body-oil-review/ https://liveglam.com/ouai-rose-hair-body-oil-review/#comments Thu, 21 Jun 2018 17:58:28 +0000 https://liveglam.com/?p=10006532177 It’s pretty obvious at this point that when it comes to anything hair, Jen Atkin is the woman to go to. Not only is she the hair stylist of the likes of the Kardashian clan and Chrissy Teigen, she’s also, without a doubt, one of the coolest gals in the A-list sphere.

As far as hair oils go, we thought it couldn’t get much better than the original OUAI Hair oil, but it turns out that Jen and her team had something even better in the works while everyone and their neighbours best friend fangirled over the original. Introducing: the OUAI Rose Hair & Body Oil.

So, just why do we love it oh so much, and how is it different from the original hair oil? Firstly, you get more bang for your buck with this oil – 98.9ml to be precise. Secondly, the scent, and lastly, instead of it just being restricted to your mane, this is a head-to-toe hydrator that works just as well for the body as it does hair.

Rose scented products often gets a bad rep as they can fall under the ‘smells like grandma’ category, but this oil is thankfully far, far away from that. As well as being reminiscent of Turkish delight, the scent also has notes of lychee, cedarwood, white musk and bergamot, making it smell sweet (but not sickly), fruity and fresh. And because of the long-lasting fragrance of it, it also doubles up as a hair perfume which is just dreamy.

The consistency is what sets this apart from other oils on the market, though; while being incredibly nourishing and hydrating thanks to the blend of rosehip, shea and absinthium oils, it is also really lightweight, making it suitable for all hair types. This is magic to the ears of people with fine, limp-looking hair because while we’d love to be able to use hair oils and get that silky, glossy finish, they just make out hair look flat and greasy. So, because of the lightweight consistency, there’s no chance of this oil OUAI-ing your hair down (sorry).

The lightweight consistency also bodes well for the body because while the oil does a great job of hydrating the skin and making our limbs look glowy and sun kissed, it doesn’t take an age to sink in which means that you don’t have to wait around for hours after application to put your clothes on, making it the perfect body moisturiser for day-to-day use.

Is this oil already in your beauty arsenal, or has this tempted you to pick one up?

3 Ways to Repair Your Heat and Colour Damaged Hair  https://liveglam.com/3-ways-to-repair-damaged-hair/ https://liveglam.com/3-ways-to-repair-damaged-hair/#respond Thu, 19 Apr 2018 18:41:20 +0000 https://liveglam.com/?p=10004873089 Whether it’s regular root maintenance, everyday straightening or bleaching that’s caused your hair to become a bit frazzled, brittle and dry, you can help to repair it by switching up your products and treating it with a little more respect. If your hair is seriously straw-like, we’d recommend going and having a good amount of it snipped off, but if it’s just in need of a good helping of TLC, a trim and the below treatment should be just fine.

Switch to sulfate-free shampoos

Although they create a satisfying, bubbly lather, sulfates in our shampoos aren’t that great for our hair; particularly when it’s color treated. Sulfates strip the hair of its natural (and essential) oils, leaving it dry, more prone to heat and environmental damage, and they also strip the color from color-treated hair much more quickly than sulfate-free formulas would. The best way to avoid them is to avoid shampoos with ‘sodium laurel’ or ‘laureth sulfates’ listed in the ingredients list. While we’re on the topic of cleaning our hair, it’s important to not overdo it; over-cleansing our hair removes its protective oils, and leaves it dry, vulnerable to damage and brittle. Try to only shampoo your hair a couple of times a week, and if you’re in need of a little de-greasing between washes, use a dry shampoo to soak up any excess oil.

Use protein-rich treatments

Heat damage = keratin loss. To add the lipids (oil) and keratin back into your hair and reconstruct broken hair strands, keratin-rich products will help to restructure and strengthen your hair – therefore creating a stronger canvas for styling. Look for treatments and masks with the word ‘keratin’ on the packaging. Protein treatments are also great for pre-coloring or chemical treatments as they ensure that the hair is stronger throughout the coloring/chemical process.

Opt for styling products instead of tools

It’s no surprise to any of us that using curling barrels and straightening irons that reach up to 220 degrees isn’t all that great for our poor hair follicles, but there are alternatives that are heat-free and even good for our hair. For loose waves and curls, loose plaits or twisting your hair downwards when slightly damp and tying with a band at the ends are great heat-free options, and styling creams and texturizing sprays are also great for a more undone, city-girl kind of look.

Will you be taking any of these tips onboard?

Weather Proof Hairstyles https://liveglam.com/weather-proof-hairstyles/ https://liveglam.com/weather-proof-hairstyles/#respond Mon, 19 Mar 2018 00:38:27 +0000 https://liveglam.com/?p=10004341334 Braids, buns, and bonnets- oh my! With the weather changing from snow to rain, windy, dry, and wet basically any given day of the week, you need a hairstyle that can take a beating. We’ve got our 5 favorite styles for some weatherproof hair this spring! And no- we’re not gonna tell you to throw on a hat.

Crown Braid

You are a queen, rain or shine. Which is probably why this sexy wrapped braid is so perfect for poor weather. The style can be cute if it’s a bit messy, which is an extra perk! It’s pretty easy to pull off, too. If you speak fluent french braiding, then you can french braid all the way around, starting at neck or the forehead. Or if you’re more of a 3-minutes-or-less kinda person, then just braid 2 pigtails and pin them both up in the front of your head! Boom.

Low Pony

If you’re hair is not layered like an onion, then you can make a low pony work for you! Just gather your hair rather tightly at the base of your neck and… well… you’re done! If you’ve got too many layers it’ll result in hairs falling out left and right- which is definitely not gonna weather any rainy conditions. Sorry!

Tight Bun

You don’t have to be uptight to rock this ballerina-esque style, you just need to gel it out! Sleek your hair back with a bristly-brush to get is super smooth, and tie it up tightly! This is a great way to mask hair that’s ready to be washed, too, cause who’s gonna know when it’s all gel’d back?!

Cornrows

If you wanna look like a bad b…eautiful woman with your weatherproof hair, then try some cornrows! You can do 4-5 chunky ones, or a head full of small cornrows (if you have a day to kill and want someone pulling at your hair for 6+hours…) and they’ll even last you some days!

Messy Waves

If all else fails, embrace it! Rock out with your messy-waves. Don’t let any humidity, rain, lightning, tornadoes, monsoons, alien abductions or any other inclimate conditions tell you how to wear your hair! Throw a little wave in it and let’s say it was “meant to be messy”… we won’t tell!

Don’t let the rain stop you from shining this spring! You can weatherproof your hair with a few fun hairstyles, and if all else fails, just throw on a hat. 🤷‍ Tell us some of your favorite Spring styles to weather the conditions in the comments!

Stay Glam!
Xoxo

DIY Winter Strength & Moisture Hair Mask! https://liveglam.com/diy-winter-strength-moisture-hair-mask/ https://liveglam.com/diy-winter-strength-moisture-hair-mask/#respond Mon, 18 Dec 2017 03:33:46 +0000 https://liveglam.com/?p=10002737295 Winter is a wonderful time of the year, full with holiday magic and cheer, with dry hair in the atmosphere!

Warm cocoa and cool weather are winter classics! While the snow on the ground is beautiful and it feels like there’s magic in the air- the cool-dry conditions can leave your hair yearning for a lil’ extra TLC! And since the holidays are about spreading love, be sure to extend those warm fuzzy feelings to your dry locks. This favorite DIY hair mask has helped turn my damaged winter ‘do into a cascade of soft, shiny silk.

Diy Hair Mask

Hairway to Heaven

If the winter turns your hair into straw, then this mask will help restore your moisture and shine. To make this amazing hair mask at home, start by adding a few tablespoons of Black Jamaican Castor Oil in a bowl and mix it in with some jojoba oil to thin it out. Then drop a couple tablespoons of mayonnaise and whip it all up!. Yes- we said mayo- trust me on this one! Finish by mixing in 4-6 drops of rosemary oil. Apply the mixture to towel-dried hair and let is marinate! Leave the conditioner in for at least 30 minutes, but I like to keep it on overnight with a shower cap on!

Diy Hair Mask

Moisture Control

I’m not just gonna tell you to throw mayonnaise in your hair without good reason, so let’s break down these ingredients and see what’s going on to turn your drought to a garden! If you break the mayo down to the basics, what you’ve got is oil and egg yolk! These ingredients will help moisturize your hair, restore it’s proteins, and add a layer of shine and protection. The Jojoba is doing the same job, by locking in moisture!

Diy Hair Mask

Strength and Length

Soft and shiny hair comes from strong healthy roots! The Castor and Rosemary oils are going to help strengthen your hair from root to tip. Rosemary oil has amazing qualities that help promote hair growth and can aid in treating dandruff! After adding your mask to your whole head, you can massage a few extra drops of Rosemary into your roots to help hair growth! Castor oil also will help your hair grow strong, fast, and healthy! Be sure to massage your mask thoroughly into your roots to get all these hairy benefits!

Don’t get the winter blues with dry hair, let this hair mask keep you jolly! Your beautiful locks will thanking you come Spring. What are some of your favorite hair products?

Our Favorite Unicorn Hair Products! https://liveglam.com/favorite-unicorn-hair-products/ https://liveglam.com/favorite-unicorn-hair-products/#comments Sun, 22 Oct 2017 20:44:38 +0000 https://liveglam.com/?p=10002058401 I definitely spent a good deal of my childhood aspiring to be a mermaid, unicorn…

or even a bird– let’s be real I wasn’t too picky as long as I could be mystical, colorful, or fly. Well, mystical is in the eye of the beholder and I have yet to grow any wings, but there’s one thing I got down: colorful!

So whether you’re itching to explode some unicorn magic in your hair, or are just struggling to keep the magic alive in your colored locks, I’ve got some great products that will let your inner peacock shine!

Mermaid Magic in a Bottle

Let’s be frank, not all dye is created equal! If you’re looking for mermaid locks that don’t fade away after a few washes- then you paint your hair with some Joico Color Intensity dyes! These little babies are exactly what they claim to be- Intense! I’ve tried their blues, purple, green, pink, red, orange, gray– you name it! The color payoff on each one is amazing and they fade (slowly!) but so beautifully. Not only that- they’re made from great ingredients that will leave your hair soft and shiny!

Also, secondary shout out to LimeCrime Unicorn Hair! I haven’t tried the whole line, but they have a gorgeous and brilliant blue with amazing payoff: anime.

Scrub-a-dub-dub, Unicorns in a Tub

So now that you have a head full of magic and mystique, how do you keep it looking fresh?! That was my struggle for the longest time until I discovered Viral shampoo! This shampoo is packed full of color and will actually dye your hair! If you’re looking for more of a tint on hair medium-brown and lighter, use this shampoo a few times per week and let it do the work for you!

I like to use my shampoo strategically to alter my color! I’ll use blue shampoo over pink or purple hair to add a dimension to the root (which is what I’m rocking with now!), and the blue stays so vibrant! This is a truly amazing product! They make a conditioner as well, so you can really have some fun with the color pairings! (purple conditioner, blue shampoo… etc!)

Roots are for Trees, not Unicorns!

If you’re in-between bleaches or trying to take it easy on your hair (ME!) by not bleaching too frequently, then we’ve probably got a root situation to deal with! Depending on your natural color and whatever mermaid vibe you’re rocking, it might not be an issue! (I usually just let ‘em grow and say fudge it!) But I love these little Root Cover Refreshing Powders by Ion from Sally’s! They’re super quick and easy to use, pop just the amount of color you need, AND they will help soak up excess oil! Definitely a good item to keep on hand!

Now you should be ready and equipped with the arsenal you need for some serious unicorn slayage! From my little peacock of a head to yours, stay glam! Tell me some of your favorite hair products below! <3

If you want to try out these colorful brows to match your mermaid ‘do, then peep our post on how to get them here!

Blorange Hair Color Ideas and Inspiration Around the Web https://liveglam.com/blorange-hair-color-inspiration/ https://liveglam.com/blorange-hair-color-inspiration/#respond Tue, 07 Mar 2017 23:45:00 +0000 https://liveglam.com/?p=10000309768 OK, hair divas. This one’s for you. If you’re all about treating your tresses to the hottest trends, then it’s likely that the blorange hair color is next up on your list. Say goodbye to your romantic rose-colored locks, because they’re about to get a sunnier update—just in time for summer.

Blorange is the newest hair trend, and it’s definitely one of the more memorable hairstyles out there. It’s basically a blend between blonde + orange, hence the fun name, blorange. Think of it as a sunset on your head. Or a tequila sunrise. Or a creamsicle.

Get where I’m going with this? No? OK, let’s give you some visual inspiration.

via @hairbyaustinclaire/IG

Blorange Hair Color Inspo

There’s already a lot of blorange saturating social media, so you’re in luck. You can sport the blorange trend in a variety of ways. For example, if you’re growing out your rose roots, you can dip your ends into a warm blorange tone to create a sweet ombre like this girl.

The hair color has a lot of variations, making it easy to customize for all tastes. And there are plenty of looks here (we see, you Gigi) that define blorange pretty well. As you can see, it’s kind of a mix between orange and pink, as bright or as pastel as your complexion can handle.

Personally, I’m a balayage-loving gal, so the blended looks are my personal faves, using peach tones and vibrant orange hues atop darker roots. It gives you a lot of dimension, as seen in a few of these examples.

Styling Blorange Hair

When it comes to styling your colorful locks, an edgy cut is always welcome. Beachy texturizing spray (we reviewed Not Your Mother’s sea salt spray here) is a great product for defining your newly dyed strands and giving them that extra punch.

So give your hair a few carefree curls if you’re looking for that beachy, boho vibe. You really can’t go wrong with the blorange hair color as long as you do what’s right for your hair. After all, you know your hair best! With that said, always ensure you’re using the right serum for your hair type to get optimal results. You’d hate for your fruity-hued waves to look rotten.

Are you ready to give blorange a try? Let us know in the comments if you’re a beauty trend-chaser or prefer to keep it natural.

Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray Product Review https://liveglam.com/not-your-mothers-beach-babe-texturizing-sea-salt-spray-product-review/ https://liveglam.com/not-your-mothers-beach-babe-texturizing-sea-salt-spray-product-review/#respond Sun, 26 Feb 2017 02:13:24 +0000 https://liveglam.com/?p=10000258880 Who says you can’t be a beach bae all year round? We didn’t, so you’re not breaking any rules in our books! Tousled hair is the best, and it’s sexy when you create effortless waves without putting in a lot of work. If you’re trying to achieve beachy hair waves minus the heating tools, then you must try Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray. We’ve got our hands on it and ready to give you the dish.

Packaging: 5

Let’s start off with talking about the white and ocean blue summer inspired bottle, first. Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Sea Salt spray comes in pretty generous bottle. It’s a 8.0oz, which means a lot of product and less replenishing time. The nozzle is pretty powerful and just awesome. It gives you a nice splash of the product, and that’s all you really need. Otherwise- too much sea salt might make your hair look and feel sticky!

Performance: 4.5

Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt spray creates tousled waves and provides a light matte finish to your hair. It’s infused with natural dead sea salt and sea kelp for texture. This texturizing Sea Salt spray also contains aloe extract which protects your hair against dryness, soothes your hair from sun exposure, and hydrates your lovely locks, too. The other thing we love about this texturizing sea salt spray, it gives you movable texture without that crunch, gel hair look from the 80s, because we all know, that’s so not cute!

Price: 5

Honestly, the price is really surprising. For a bottle that big and for what it delivers, it’s almost too good to be true. $5.99 is totally affordable and so worth it.

Overall: 4.8

We are totally obsessed with Not your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt spray, however, if there is one thing we would change about it is, to kick up the shine factor just a bit. The product does say it adds a matte finish, but a little more shine or hydration would make this spray perfect. Would we buy it again, tho? For sure! Who doesn’t want beach waves that fast? Plus, it smells just like the beach, which we all could use more of right now.
