How to Prevent Your Makeup from Melting in the Summer
Summer vacays and makeup meltdowns go hand in hand – we don’t know about you but makeup melting in our mojito is not in our vacay itinerary. It can be challenging to know how to prevent makeup from melting in the summer, especially on those super hot days (95 degree days, we’re looking at you) but it’s not impossible with these summer beauty hacks!

How Do You Prevent Makeup from Melting in Summer
Nothing is worse than creating the perfect summer makeup look fit for a baddie (matching your bikini and all) only to wipe off the sweat along with 45% of your makeup too (R.I.P to all your hard work). We have good news though – it’s time to say goodbye to melting makeup because these summer beauty tips to stop makeup from melting off in hot weather will show you how to fix that faster than your frozen margarita can melt in the sun!
1. Primer
Primer is essential if you want to sweat-proof your makeup! Think of primer as a rubber cement that creates a barrier (sealing off all that sweat) allowing your foundation to stay free of sweat. Mattifying and smoothing primers are the best for longer-lasting makeup – press the primer into your precious skin, especially in the areas that tend to sweat or get more oily.
For those of you babes blessed with oily skin, dust your freshly primed face with a super light layer of translucent powder. Translucent powder is very light and airy and it won’t affect the formula of your foundation, it’ll just help your makeup last even longer.
2. Foundation & Concealer
This can get tricky, so choose your foundation formulas carefully!
We can’t resist applying foundation, even in the hottest weather (uh, we’re trying to look flawless for every szn over here!) but that doesn’t mean we have to grab that full-coverage foundation every time. The best tip to stop your foundation from sweating off is to go light! What does this mean? It means trading that full-coverage foundation for something more lightweight that can sink into your skin better. Choose tinted moisturizer (with SPF) and build up the coverage in layers or use a concealer on areas you need more coverage – light formulas are less likely to run as opposed to the fuller coverage and thicker foundations.
If you prefer a thicker or fuller-coverage (don’t we all?) make sure you look for the words “waterproof” or “long-lasting”. Remember to apply thin layers, overdoing the foundation (no matter how long-lasting) will cause it to run or get cakey!
3. Creams & Stains
When it comes to blush, highlighter and contour, opt for creams or stains! It may seem counterintuitive to use creams and stains instead of powder but the truth is, creams and stains will melt into your skin as opposed to just sit on top and vanish at the sight of moisture.
Press your fave cream or stain blush (our fave is Milk Makeup’s Lip + Cheek) on the apples of your cheeks for a cute and long-lasting flush of color! Do the same with a cream highlighter (top that with a powder highlight for an intense shine) and make sure you really press it into your skin.
4. Choose Waterproof & Smudge-proof Formulas
If it wasn’t obvious enough, summer is the time to look for those waterproof and smudge-proof formulas – sweat, who? We don’t know her! Avoid the dreaded raccoon eyes by using a good waterproof mascara and waterproof eyeliner! Come rain or intense shine, these formulas will slay by your side until you decide to remove them (that’s the kinda control we live for 😉).
In order to keep your entire look melt-proof, trade that traditional lipstick for a liquid lipstick. Another thing you need in your purse on these hot AF days… blotting papers! Blotting papers will remove sweat, oil, and shine, without disturbing your makeup or adding any unnecessary product. When in doubt, blot it out!
