If this year has got you feeling a bit disoriented (and exhausted), makeup comes to the rescue! Get to that Christmas party (even if it’s on Zoom), pop on those themed earrings, and get your glam on with the best holiday eye makeup looks of 2020. 

Bright silver shadow 

Cool-toned eye colors are coming back in a major way. Instead of going for powdery greys and taupe, try a bright, silver glitter over the entire lid. Take a painterly approach and slick opaque silver shadow over the lid, up to the crease. Keep the lower lash line completely clean and finish the look with  nothing but a slick of mascara. Don’t forget to add a warm nude lippie like Expensive from our December 2020 Lippie Club collection. 

Burgundy and gold 

Warm, regal tones of burgundy and gold are a winter evening dream. Buff a burgundy matte shadow into the crease and outer corner, then deepen with a black shadow to your smoky preference. Use a gold glitter liner or shimmer into the center of the lid and finish with fluffy falsies. 

P.S. our ‘Birthday Suit’ palette is perfect for this look, especially if you like your burgundy to be on the neutral brown side. 

Candy canes and glitter

Hey, a literal interpretation of the theme is always welcome! Get festive with a candy cane cut crease and your favorite glitter liners. Start by buffing a green shadow into the crease and along the lower lash line. Draw a thick-ish line with white liquid liner through the crease, and create an outer-corner wing. Take a red liquid liner (or red shadow mixed with mixing medium) and draw little lines across your white crease and wing. Voila, candy cane! Pack silver glitter onto the lid and add your favorite falsies. Don’t forget to pair your candy cane eye makeup lewk with our Diamond lippie for the perfect Santa Baby vibes!

Stark white eyeshadow

If smoky hues and metallic accents just aren’t doing it for you this year, go minimal! Use the fresh snow as your inspo and go for an opaque white shadow. Use a white liquid liner or eye paint to draw a graphic wing that extends to the crease with crisp outlines. Add some wispy falsies to the outer corner lashes and flush those cheeks like you’ve been building snowmen.

Beauty and Wellbeing Gifts to Help Busy People Take a Break

Do you have that one friend or family member who just nails life, day in, day out, but doesn’t take a break for themselves? It’s all very well to say, “you work so hard! Take a break!” (they won’t listen). Sometimes people need a little extra encouragement and some “relaxation tools” to help them switch off and unwind.

Here are a few gift ideas for those hard-working, kickass people in our lives!

A chill-out kit

Get a basket or box (one they can reuse! Try to minimize plastic or wastage). Start by adding a magazine you know they’ll love to pore over. For example: If they’re an interiors or architecture lover, find a magazine full of drool-worthy home editorials. If they love food, go with a baking or cooking mag. You get the picture! Add a box of herbal tea, their favorite chocolate, a face mask, a scented candle, nourishing bath or shower creme, and a note from you to let them know why you love them and why they deserve to take a break.

A soft throw and a book

Past a certain age, soft home furnishings just become so incredibly enticing. Fine sheets, bedspreads, duvet covers, soft towels, fluffy blankets…heavenly. If your super- busy friend is a lover of tactile things, they’ll appreciate a soft, cuddly, cozy throw blanket in a rich color. What’s more, it’s a practical gift they’ll get use out of for years to come.

Wrap it up with a good book (if they’re a reader) and an instruction note:

  • Take a bath
  • Put pajamas on
  • Make a cup of tea
  • Wrap up in new blanket
  • Snuggle up on the couch or in bed
  • Read book
  • Feel happy, loved, relaxed
  • Sleep
  • Repeat whenever needed

A journal or paint set

Some people truly relax when they are being creative, letting out their thoughts and feelings through words or colors. For the writer (or writer to-be) in your life, wrap up a beautiful journal and a luxury pen, and even a little book of poetry to get their inspiration flowing.

Art gifts

For the artist, wrap up a set of paints, a book of heavy painting paper, and a brush or two. Even if it takes them a little while to actually get round to doing it, they will have it in the back of their minds as something to look forward to.

I think there’s something special, thoughtful, and encouraging about receiving the gift of creativity. It tells the recipient that you value their wonderful mind, and that they should value it too.

A night out

And lastly…organize a good old fashioned night out. It could be dinner, drinks, and dancing, or it could be a movie night with champagne and pizza (you’re NEVER too old for a movie night-meets-sleepover).

Best gifts for busy people

Either way, it gives you and your friends time to dress up, get glammed, get together, talk about life, laugh, cry, be silly, and wind down. Provide a range of dates to choose from, lock one in, and tell them to clear their schedule and get a babysitter for the night!

PMS is real and it sucks, so we just wanted to remind you to be kind and gentle to yourselves when the rollercoaster time of the month comes along! Here are some ways to take care of yourself during a PMS phase. 

1. Painkillers, food, hydration, rest…(and maybe a pinot grigio?)

First things first, take care of the basics. Take painkillers for cramps and nausea (I have endometriosis, I know how horrible it can get!).

Stay hydrated with water and herbal tea (staying hydrated helps to combat bloating and headaches).

Keep yourself nourished with wholesome, filling foods which bridge the gap between comforting and nutritious. If you’re hankering for chocolate and chips? Go for it, but don’t go overboard or you might be looking at a headache and even worse cramps and bloating.

Oh, about that pinot gris…I won’t elaborate…but you can tell where I’m going with it! 

2. Stretch

PMS can be painful, puffy and full of stress. One of my favorite ways to release some of this tension is to slowly, gently stretch. If you get pain in your lower back and hips during your time of the month, try this simple yoga/stretching video when you have a spare 20 minutes. There are countless videos and resources online to guide you through light stretches for whichever ache or site of tension you’re experiencing.

3. Drink honey, lemon ginger tea

This is a really specific one which I adhere to every month. Ginger really does help to ease my PMS-related sore tummy and reduces nausea. Lemon helps to flush the system and honey is…well, delicious. Plus, it forces you to sit down, relax and feel warm from the inside out.

4. Cry it out

Hey. PMS can be a truly horrible experience. It can make us feel irritated, confused, glum, weepy, introspective, regretful (for no reason!), and downright hopeless.

Sometimes the best way to deal with these feelings is to let yourself truly feel them, and cry if you feel like it! Watch your favorite, most tear-beckoning movie, re-watch your go-to TV binge show, read a book, or simply sit with your friend and let out your woes…rational or not (the other day I cried because it rained and my laundry was hanging on the line). 

4. Have an “everything” shower

Okay, so, there are different kinds of showers, as you well know. There’s the “quick, body shower”, the “hair wash shower”, and the “everything shower”.

The everything shower is when you:

  • Exfoliate your entire body
  • Use an in-shower moisturizer
  • Wash your hair
  • Exfoliate your face
  • Shave your legs (if that’s part of your routine!)
  • Pumice your heels

How to help PMS

While this may sound like a lot of work during a PMS bout, it’s actually super relaxing. The heat from the water can help to ease cramps and induce sleepiness. I find that when I feel clean, scrubbed and nourished-from-the-outside, I feel better on the inside.

The time alone is also really beneficial as it gives you space to think, unwind, feel and reflect.

5. Brows, lips, and nails

When I’m PMS’ing, or generally feeling tired, rundown and a bit emotional, I like to do little things to make myself feel more myself. I feel my best self when I’ve got tinted brows, soft, color-ready lips, and nails which aren’t completely ratty.

Set yourself up on the couch or on your bed, get a mirror, some tweezers, and your brow tinting kit. Slowly go through the process as you watch TV or FaceTime a friend.

PMS self care

Make a little lip scrub with sugar and coconut oil, rub it in slowly, rinse it off then apply a hydrating balm.

Sit with your nail kit and file, clip, polish and moisturize as you relax. I find the practical, easy process of a self manicure to be really calming.

6. Exfoliate, moisturize, spot-treat

Hormones do all kinds of nutty things to our skin, (check out this great diagram which lays it all out simply). Whether you’re in the dry, dull phase or the greasy break-out phase, nourish your skin accordingly.

For dry days: remove dead skin with a gentle cleanser and a face cloth, or a chemical exfoliator mask. Apply hyaluronic acid to the super dry patches. Add a layer of hydrating serum, then finish with your moisturizer. Use a hydrating spray throughout the day.

For oily, blemish-happy days: cleanse with a gentle cleanser (don’t strip the skin!), add hyaluronic acid or an oil-free serum to keep hydration balanced but oiliness under control. Apply your go-to moisturizer.

Use a spot treatment such as salicylic acid or drying solution to each individual blemish. Go easy on the heavy foundation and use a full-coverage concealer to spot-conceal where required…or just wear your breakouts bare and beautiful.

And finally…

Be kind to yourself because you’re a brave, beautiful and badass woman.

We truly value and care about all of our Glammers, and to give extra meaning to what we do as an organization, we’ve created our Give a Glam Program. To learn more about it and how you can be a recipient, keep reading! 

What is LiveGlam’s Give a Glam Program?

The main mission of our Give a Glam Program is to take that extra mile and make your experience memorable by providing surprises that will make you feel valued and loved – the LiveGlam way. 

How does it work? 

Once a week, we choose a Glammer (a member of any of our LiveGlam Clubs) to receive some extra help and love from our team. Whether you’re going through a tough time, ran out of your favorite lippie and can’t afford it, or had an issue with your subscription, our Customer Happiness team is constantly searching through comments from our socials, emails, and chats to find Glammers to give back to. 

It doesn’t even have to be about our product or service, we just want to put a smile on your pretty face! 

How do I qualify as a Give a Glam Recipient? 

There is no formal way to submit yourself for our Give a Glam program. It’s more of an organic process. If we see your story on our socials, emails, or chat and select you, we will reach out to you directly and do the rest! Check out some of our past Give a Glam recipients below as an example:
