Social-Distance Beauty Challenge Ideas

When it’s Saturday night during the lockdown and you’re missing your friends, get on the Zoom call and propose a makeup challenge party. No matter your skill level, make a game out of nailing certain looks or silly makeup challenges to pass the time.

It’s the perfect way to connect, have a giggle, get creative, and “get ready” even though ya ain’t goin nowhere.

Celebrity look-alike challenge

Either pick one celebrity for the whole group or nominate a different celebrity for each person. It could be super technical like changing your entire facial structure with contour to transform into the person, or a simpler task of copying the celebrity’s iconic makeup look.

Recreate an Instagram image

Scroll through Instagram makeup artists and pick the best, toughest, or craziest look and send the pick to the group. Everyone has to recreate it. The winner gets to pick the first activity you all do together once the lockdown is over.

Beauty challenges

One-color challenge

This one is simple, you have to create an entire look using one color. For example, it could be purple, and you have to use different shades of purple for everything from contour to lip liner. (Foundation and concealer can be normal).

3 product full face challenge

One person picks three products you all have to use to create a full face, NO other products allowed. For example, it could be blush, brown eyeliner, and concealer. Or contour, blue eyeshadow, and peach lipstick.

Recreate an era

Pick an era such as 1920s flapper, 1980s glam rock, or 1990s supermodel for everyone to recreate. Bonus tips for costume and accessories trawled from your respective wardrobes.

recreate an era makeup

2-minute full-face zoom party

Easy: create a full glam look in two minutes and see who has the best skills under pressure. You can add more instructions like, “it has to feature glitter”, or “it has to be matte skin with a glossy lip”.

Partner makeup challenge

Drag your boyfriend, girlfriend, Mom, Dad or anyone else you are isolating with and give them a makeover. Add themes, rules, and time limits to make it more interesting.

Even better…get your face done by someone who is absolutely clueless about makeup.

How to Organize Your Beauty Collection During Isolation https://liveglam.com/organize-beauty-collection-during-isolation/ https://liveglam.com/organize-beauty-collection-during-isolation/#respond Wed, 15 Apr 2020 16:00:10 +0000 https://liveglam.com/?p=10042068010

Isolation Beauty Collection Maintenance Checklist

After you’ve done all the Spring cleaning, wardrobe organizing, and kitchen sorting, move on to your makeup stash! For those of us who get a thrill out of an organized collection (whether it’s makeup, shoes, or books) this is the ultimate isolation activity.

However, it can be hard to let go of those lippies and palettes we never use (and are probably super expired) for sentimental reasons. But it’s time to refresh, shed, and come out the end with only what we need.

The smell test

Smell those lipsticks, glosses, powders, palettes, and foundations. Do they smell funky? Do products that once smelled like caramel now smell like play dough? Do you barely remember when you bought them and have they been around longer than your current relationship? Bin them. Be ruthless.

The “do I wear it?” test

If you can’t remember the last time you wore a certain product and honestly can’t see yourself reaching for it any time soon, it’s a goner. All it’s doing is hanging around taking up the space that newer, more well-loved products could be hanging out in. Once it’s gone, you won’t even think about it.

Wash your brushes

Washing brushes, the job we all need to do more often, and now we have no excuse but to do it.

How to wash your makeup brushes

Put on a podcast, favorite music, movie, or trash reality TV, pour a glass of wine and set up a cleaning station. Set out a clean towel or paper towels on a clean bench. Fill a bowl with warm water and shampoo (or whatever brush cleaning product you use) and get into the rhythm of cleaning each brush until the water is no longer pigmented when you swish the brush in it.

Squeeze out as much liquid as you can, then stand the brushes up (bristle-side down) and pop them in the sun if you can.

Polish your packaging

Any other Monica Gellar’s out there? Hi! Yes, I like my makeup packaging to be as gleaming and pretty as the goodies inside. Take a microfiber cloth, dampen it slightly, and spritz it with antibacterial spray. Wipe down your products to remove caked makeup, dust, and get a gleaming shine going. Ahhh, so satisfying.

Sort by season

If your collection is vast, pick out your Spring and Summer colors and formulas and put them in their own casing or drawer close by. Just like you do with clothes, it’s handy to have the right “makeup wardrobe” ready and waiting.

Do a try-test to rediscover forgotten products

Okay, not every unused product should be tossed, as some have just been unfortunate enough to be pushed aside for more regular “go-to” shades. If you come across a product that hasn’t expired, and it still sparks your interest, pop it in a “trial pile”. At the end of your sorting process, have a try-on session to discover whether these forgotten goodies deserve to be on regular rotation.

Feel Better with Beauty During Isolation https://liveglam.com/feel-better-with-beauty-during-isolation/ https://liveglam.com/feel-better-with-beauty-during-isolation/#respond Thu, 09 Apr 2020 00:25:18 +0000 https://liveglam.com/?p=10042055520

Feel Better with Beauty During Isolation

Hey, beauty lovers! How are you all doing during this strange, new, and anxious time? If you’re struggling, we’re sending you a big virtual hug. When times are tough and we’re limited to our homes, or are having to work in uncertain and often scary situations, we can turn to the little things in life to soothe our souls. It could be a hot cup of tea in bed with your favorite TV show, a walk in the sun, or reading a good book snuggled under the covers.

Self-pampering is also a wonderful way to relax and feel a little better, so here are some tips for how to feel better with beauty!

Treat your lips with a DIY Scrub

Get your kissers all smooth and lush by giving them a scrub session with a little coarse sugar mixed with coconut or olive oil. Dab the excess oil off and top with a balm. This is a great little activity to do when you’re feeling bored and jittery but don’t have the attention span to sit down for a more time-consuming task.

Pop on a YouTube Zumba class and groove as your balm soaks into your lips.

Shape and tint the brows

Order (if you can) a DIY brow-tinting kit and give yourself a brow overhaul by gently shaping and coloring them. I like to thoroughly pluck between the brows and carefully take out one little row under the brow to give myself a little more brow-bone space while keeping things bushy.

Do this as you sit with your feet in a warm bath to soak dry skin ready to give your tootsies a good scrub later on.

Isolation beauty tips

Full-body sugar scrub and moisturizer

If we’re going to spend our time in jammies, home clothes and a mix-and-match collection of our boyfriend’s boxers and tees, let’s do it with smooth, nourished skin.

Mix 2 Tbsp of sugar with 1 Tbsp coconut oil in a little cup and take it into the shower. Wet your skin then turn off the water. Give your entire body a thorough scrub with the mixture, focusing on more dry or coarse areas. Rinse it off and you’ll be silky smooth. Follow-up with a full-body application of light moisturizer.

Get masked

Get busy in the kitchen by making a homemade face mask and force it upon whoever’s in your isolation bubble. If you’re alone, take a mandatory facemask selfie and post it to the group.

My favorite home mask is a softening, soothing, hydrating mask consisting of:

  • Rolled oats slightly crushed with a fork
  • Honey
  • Plain yoghurt
  • Rosehip oil
  • A drop of tea tree oil if I’ve got breakouts

I just eyeball the amounts until I’ve got a thick consistency that’s easy to spread but will stay put on my face.

Leave it on for at least ten minutes while you stretch your body and think about all the great things you’ll do when this is over. Think about how much more we’ll all appreciate our friends, family, and the ability to spend time with each other.

DIY face masks

Polish and prettify your feet

Having pretty feet makes me feel fancy and sleek because they’re often a little dry with chipped nail polish (lovely, I know).

Soak your feet in a bath of warm water and a nourishing shower gel or creme. Set up your laptop on the bathroom bench (far away from the bath, please!) and watch an episode as you soak and sip (tea, wine, gin and tonic, no judgment here, guys).

Once you’re good and soaked, take pumice or a heel stone and scrub your heels and any calluses with circular motions. Keep going until the skin is smooth and any roughness has disappeared.

Dry your feet off, trim your nails and apply a cheery polish color.

Once the polish is fully dry, slather your feet in the most hydrating, rich moisturizer you’ve got and pop your socks on to really lock it in.

Strengthen your DIY manicure game

Get yourself set up on the sofa with a feel-good movie or TV series. Make an iced tea or cucumber-lemon water with a metal straw (so you can sip without messing your polish), and lay your manicure gear on the coffee table or floor.

  • File your nails in a softly rounded shape (or your go-to shape) and smooth any rough edges
  • Use an orange stick to push back the cuticles
  • Apply 2 coats of your favorite shade. I find a pale pink or nude is best for isolation as anything brighter makes me want to go out for wines and girl chats
  • Once the polish is dry, rub cuticle oil (or any nourishing oil such as argan, rosehip, or coconut) into your cuticles and the skin around your nails

If you are working in tough conditions throughout this tough time, thank you! I hope you’re getting lots of love, support, and pampering wherever you are, and whenever you can. If you’re self-isolating by yourself, stay strong! This will pass.

PMS Self-Care and Beauty Routine Tips https://liveglam.com/pms-self-care-and-beauty-routine-tips/ https://liveglam.com/pms-self-care-and-beauty-routine-tips/#respond Thu, 29 Aug 2019 18:15:18 +0000 https://liveglam.com/?p=10035116065 PMS self-care and beauty routine tips

PMS is real and it sucks, so we just wanted to remind you to be kind and gentle to yourselves when the rollercoaster time of the month comes along! Here are some ways to take care of yourself during a PMS phase.

1. Painkillers, food, hydration, rest…(and maybe a pinot grigio?)

First things first, take care of the basics. Take painkillers for cramps and nausea (I have endometriosis, I know how horrible it can get!).

Stay hydrated with water and herbal tea (staying hydrated helps to combat bloating and headaches).

Keep yourself nourished with wholesome, filling foods which bridge the gap between comforting and nutritious. If you’re hankering for chocolate and chips? Go for it, but don’t go overboard or you might be looking at a headache and even worse cramps and bloating.

Oh, about that pinot gris…I won’t elaborate…but you can tell where I’m going with it!

2. Stretch

PMS can be painful, puffy and full of stress. One of my favorite ways to release some of this tension is to slowly, gently stretch. If you get pain in your lower back and hips during your time of the month, try this simple yoga/stretching video when you have a spare 20 minutes. There are countless videos and resources online to guide you through light stretches for whichever ache or site of tension you’re experiencing.

3. Drink honey, lemon ginger tea

This is a really specific one which I adhere to every month. Ginger really does help to ease my PMS-related sore tummy and reduces nausea. Lemon helps to flush the system and honey is…well, delicious. Plus, it forces you to sit down, relax and feel warm from the inside out.

PMS relief

4. Cry it out

Hey. PMS can be a truly horrible experience. It can make us feel irritated, confused, glum, weepy, introspective, regretful (for no reason!), and downright hopeless.

Sometimes the best way to deal with these feelings is to let yourself truly feel them, and cry if you feel like it! Watch your favorite, most tear-beckoning movie, re-watch your go-to TV binge show, read a book, or simply sit with your friend and let out your woes…rational or not (the other day I cried because it rained and my laundry was hanging on the line).

4. Have an “everything” shower

Okay, so, there are different kinds of showers, as you well know. There’s the “quick, body shower”, the “hair wash shower”, and the “everything shower”.

The everything shower is when you:

  • Exfoliate your entire body
  • Use an in-shower moisturizer
  • Wash your hair
  • Exfoliate your face
  • Shave your legs (if that’s part of your routine!)
  • Pumice your heels

How to help PMS

While this may sound like a lot of work during a PMS bout, it’s actually super relaxing. The heat from the water can help to ease cramps and induce sleepiness. I find that when I feel clean, scrubbed and nourished-from-the-outside, I feel better on the inside.

The time alone is also really beneficial as it gives you space to think, unwind, feel and reflect.

5. Brows, lips, and nails

When I’m PMS’ing, or generally feeling tired, rundown and a bit emotional, I like to do little things to make myself feel more myself. I feel my best self when I’ve got tinted brows, soft, color-ready lips, and nails which aren’t completely ratty.

Set yourself up on the couch or on your bed, get a mirror, some tweezers, and your brow tinting kit. Slowly go through the process as you watch TV or FaceTime a friend.

PMS self care

Make a little lip scrub with sugar and coconut oil, rub it in slowly, rinse it off then apply a hydrating balm.

Sit with your nail kit and file, clip, polish and moisturize as you relax. I find the practical, easy process of a self manicure to be really calming.

6. Exfoliate, moisturize, spot-treat

Hormones do all kinds of nutty things to our skin, (check out this great diagram which lays it all out simply). Whether you’re in the dry, dull phase or the greasy break-out phase, nourish your skin accordingly.

For dry days: remove dead skin with a gentle cleanser and a face cloth, or a chemical exfoliator mask. Apply hyaluronic acid to the super dry patches. Add a layer of hydrating serum, then finish with your moisturizer. Use a hydrating spray throughout the day.

For oily, blemish-happy days: cleanse with a gentle cleanser (don’t strip the skin!), add hyaluronic acid or an oil-free serum to keep hydration balanced but oiliness under control. Apply your go-to moisturizer.

Use a spot treatment such as salicylic acid or drying solution to each individual blemish. Go easy on the heavy foundation and use a full-coverage concealer to spot-conceal where required…or just wear your breakouts bare and beautiful.

And finally…

Be kind to yourself because you’re a brave, beautiful and badass woman.
